POWERCOL is an active fibrillar absorbable hemostatic collagen proven to accelerate clot formation. Collagen promotes hemostasis by enhancing platelet aggregation and the release of proteins required for fibrin formation, thereby accelerating the clotting process.

POWERCOL® is a purified, equine-derived collagen product. The material is sterile, pyrogen-free, and bioabsorbable. Its hemostatic efficacy is largely attributed to its fibrous structure. This structure mechanically arrests bleeding by facilitating rapid initial wound packing.

Stabilization of the initial packing is achieved through the formation of a fibrin network. Upon contact between the collagen and blood, platelets aggregate and release coagulation factors. These factors, in conjunction with plasma factors, induce fibrin formation, ultimately resulting in clot formation.

Superior performance in bleeding control

Provides excellent adaptation and adherence to the bleeding site.

Dry or Wet Application

It can be used in either dry or wet form; it can be applied in combination with saline or thrombin.

Precise application

Provides practical and controlled application through an easy-to-use applicator.

If necessary, POWERCOL® may be left in situ. The surgeon is responsible for deciding whether to remove any excess POWERCOL® material prior to wound closure.

Packaging and Contents

POWERCOL® is available in unshaped form, ready-to-use in a practical applicator, in the following formats:

About Collagen

The word “collagen” is of Greek origin; “kolla” means glue, and “gen” means producing. Collagen is a fibrous structural protein found in the extracellular matrix and connective tissue of animals (Ramshaw et al., 2009). It is the most abundant protein in the animal kingdom.

Collagen is not found in plants or single-celled organisms; in these organisms, it is replaced by polysaccharides and cellulose. It has been the subject of various scientific studies since ancient times. Its fields of application are highly extensive, and it can be sourced from various origins.

POWERCOL® is sourced from equine deep flexor tendons. Due to the emergence of diseases that pose a significant risk to human health—such as BSE, TSE, FMD, and particularly “mad cow disease”—researchers have actively turned towards safer, alternative collagen sources; this alternative has been found in equine-derived collagen

One of the significant disadvantages of bovine collagen is that it causes allergic reactions in approximately 3% of the population, thereby limiting its clinical use.

Collagen-based biomaterials play a critical role in modern medicine. Type I collagen is recognized as the ‘gold standard’ for this field due to its high biocompatibility. Collagen-based biomaterials are widely utilized in tissue engineering applications, such as hemostatic matrices and scaffolds for tissue and bone regeneration.
